(May 23, 2018 – Vernon Hills, IL) After months of competitive online competition, the field is set for the 2018 Golden Tee World Championship at The Orleans Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas on June 8-10.

Well, almost.

Sixty-three of the 64 available spots have been filled by top players across North America, who will compete live on the massive Orleans Showroom stage.  The final qualifying spot will be determined by the winner of a special Closest to the Pin contest scheduled for Friday, June 8.  The event, which will begin at 6 PM local time, is open to the public and anyone can enter and participate in the fast and fun video golf game mode.

Golden Tee World Championship qualifying took place throughout the months of February, March and April on more than 15,000 Golden Tee machines in commercial establishments across the US and Canada.  A variety of formats and qualifying leaderboards were available to offer opportunities to the widest player base possible.  When the dust settled, 63 of the best Golden Tee players in the world secured their spot with their sights set on the $20,000 top prize and the $100,000 prize pool.

The final qualifying spot, however, has been reserved for the winner of the exciting Closest-to-the-Pin contest on June 8.  In CTTP, players are faced with 9 different Golden Tee golf holes, and they get one shot on each to try for a hole in one. Players will compete head-to-head to determine a winner.  The player who comes out on top will win $1,000 and the coveted remaining spot in the World Championship.

Registration for the CTTP event begins at 4 PM on Friday June 8. Walkups are welcome and the event is open to the public.

Once the field is set, the World Championship tournament begins in earnest. All qualifiers will compete on Saturday, June 9 to determine rank and seeding. Match play will then take place on Sunday, June 10.

The top 32 players will compete in a double-elimination Champion bracket, and the lower 32 will compete in a single-elimination Silver bracket.  The fabulous Orleans Showroom will be open to spectators all weekend long.  In addition, all the action will be livestreamed on Twitch, Facebook Live and YouTube.  And to elevate the stakes, The Orleans has set betting odds on the competitors, adding a new and exciting element to the eSports showcase.

By Sunday evening, after hours of intense and compelling video golf, a new World Champion will be crowned.  The winner walks away with the coveted $20,000 top prize and a permanent place in Golden Tee history, including his likeness in a future game update.

“Golden Tee Golf has been offering video game skill contests since 1995 and is a pioneer in the world of eSports”, said Elaine Hodgson, President and CEO of Incredible Technologies, the manufacturer of Golden Tee.  “The World Championship is the perfect showcase for rewarding players for their skill and shining a light on the brand’s ongoing success.”  Golden Tee will celebrate its 30th anniversary next year, making it one of the longest running video game franchises in history.
